Ensuring Access to Education
Access to a quality education is life-changing. Tonga Education Fund’s mission is to provide the children of the community of Tonga, Cameroon with spiritual and social guidance through a Catholic education. We achieve that through a commitment to subsidization of tuition to the École Catholique Saint Jean-Baptiste (Saint Jean-Baptiste Catholic School) and by assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of the school’s facilities in order to ensure a quality learning environment.
A Reliable Education Program
A foundational goal of Tonga Education Fund is to guarantee that children in the community have access to a Catholic educational program that begins on time and is able to cover all planned material.
A common educational obstacle in Cameroon is school programs that do not start on the planned starting date. Unless all enrolled students are able to produce full-tuition by the start of the course, the start date is delayed until the full funds are deposited. Such delays are the norm, and have a devastating impact on students’ learning, as there is no longer enough time for teachers and students to cover the planned material.
The Tonga Education Fund is committed to ensuring that such delays do not impact the École Catholique Saint Jean-Baptiste. Each year, we provide 2/3rds of each enrolled student’s tuition upfront. This deposit guarantees that the school’s program is able to begin on the planned start date, regardless of whether parents in the community are facing difficulty producing the entire tuition amount in one lump sum.
It is a huge point of pride that, thanks to the Tonga Education Fund’s tuition assistance, École Catholique Saint Jean-Baptiste has a unique reputation for always starting on the planned start date.
